Funding Principles for the MRFF have been developed by the Australian Medical Research Advisory Board and endorsed by Government.

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) provides funding for health and medical research initiatives. Initiatives funded by the MRFF are decided by Government by adhering to the Funding Principles and following consideration of the Australian Medical Research and Innovation Strategy (Strategy) and Australian Medical Research and Innovation Priorities (Priorities) developed by the independent Australian Medical Research Advisory Board.
