What is the Health Data Portal?
The Health Data Portal is a web based tool that is being successfully used by a number of external Health Stakeholders, for a range of reporting purposes. The Health Data Portal, hosted by the Department’s Enterprise Data Warehouse, has been extended to take on an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specific reporting role. The Health Data Portal provides a safe and secure tool for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services to submit nKPIs, OSR and HCP number report data.
The Health Data Portal is compliant with all the relevant Australian Government security standards.
The Department implemented the Health Data Portal in December 2018.
Health Services funded under the Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme (IAHP) will be required to provide reporting data via the Portal:
- Annually in July for the On-line Services Report (OSR);
- Annually in July for Health Care Provider (HCP) reports; and
- Six monthly in January and July for national Key Performance Indicators (nKPIs).
The next reporting period is for the 31 December 2018 nKPI reports. This opened on 1 January 2019 and will now close on 14 February 2019.
January 2019 Reporting Period Extension
The December 2018 nKPI reporting period has been extended from 31 January 2019 to 14 February 2019. This will assist health services impacted by Telstra Health's recent decision to install a new Communicare reporting tool during January 2019.
It will also address delays that some health services are experiencing with obtaining an AUSkey and registering with the Portal.
An email advising health services of the extension was sent on 17 January 2019. It is a requirement of your health service's grant funding that you report.
If you have any questions regarding the extension, please email firstname.lastname@example.org

AUSkey: Accessing the Portal
There are a few things health services need to do to prepare now so they are ready to use the Portal in the future.
Firstly you will require an AUSkey to access the Portal. An AUSkey is a secure login key attached to one person and one organisation. When you login to the Portal it will automatically search and find the AUSkey software you previously downloaded. The AUSkey tells the Portal who you are and what organisation you are working for. Once this authentication is complete you will access the Portal. A guide on how to register for the Portal is available to support you.
Some of you may be very familiar with using an AUSkey however others may have never used them. Refer to the Australia Business Register web site for more information about AUSkey including how to obtain one so you will be ready to access the Portal.
What's Happening Next?
Portal Co-design Workshops (February - March)
The Portal team will be conducting a series of co-design workshops around Australia during February-March 2019. The co-design workshops will allow health service representatives to contribute to discussion on:
- Improvements to the Portal based on your January 2019 reporting experience
- Improvements to the QLIK data dashboard based on your use of it so far
- initial design of the revised Online Service Report (OSR) platform. The OSR reporting round will be collected through the Portal in June 2019. Please note: The AIHW is undertaking a review of the OSR in consultation with the Indigenous health sector. This review will be completed in January 2019.
An Eventbrite invitation to attend a co-design workshop was sent on 21 January 2019 to all health services. Information about the workshops including locations, dates and registration details are also available on the Health Data Portal Co-design Workshops web page
If you would like to attend or would like more information, please email email@example.com
