On 19 July 2016, the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Review Taskforce held its twelfth meeting. Following is an outcomes summary from the meeting.

Recommendations for public consultation from the MBS Principles and Rules Committee

Members considered and agreed amendments to seven draft recommendations from the Review’s MBS Principles and Rules Committee, relating to:

  • Provider education in MBS rules and processes
  • The ‘complete medical service’ and multiple operation rule
  • Initial vs subsequent attendances and determining a single course of treatment
  • The removal of the differential fee structure for remaining ‘G&S’ items
  • Co-claiming attendances with procedures
  • Aftercare services
  • Specialist-to-specialist referrals

It was noted that these draft recommendations are expected to be taken to public consultation in September 2016.
