On 11 April 2017, the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Review Taskforce held its nineteenth meeting as a teleconference. Following is an outcomes summary from the meeting.

Consumer Report

Members noted the progress of the Consumer Principles Document, which will provide a single coherent basis for the involvement of consumers in the Taskforce’s processes and the Consumer Toolkit, which will aid their contributions.

Tranche 3 Clinical Committees

Members noted the progress and recommendations emerging from the following Tranche 3 Clinical Committees:

  • Anaesthesia
  • Gynaecology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Diagnostic Medicine

Tranche 4 Clinical Committee Membership

The Taskforce discussed the applications for membership of the next tranche of Clinical Committees, along with nominating Chairs. The memberships were not finalised, but good progress was made and many good candidates were recommended. The proposed Clinical Committees are:

  • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander
  • Pain Management
  • Consultation Services
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery
  • Urology
